Ree McLaughlan Brown

Ree McLaughlan Brown

My art dances with vivid color and expressive intensity. Based on my intent for a painting, I decide on medium, substrate and scale.

While I play, my art paints itself. I blend alcohol inks with air, encaustic wax with heat, cold wax with oil paints, acrylics, texture, powders, resin and a mix of media. Each piece is designed to engage the viewer with a story and emotion.

I earned a Bachelor of Art from California State University, Sacramento. Twenty years later after earning an MBA, I traveled throughout Europe, inhaling art galleries, and sketching my travels. Since retiring from the CAL FIRE academy, I have been painting in my hillside chalet art studio on our rural property.

This past year I painted over 80 new works, while sheltering in place. I love painting on unexpected surfaces such as granite, marble, aluminum, synthetic and mineral papers, porcelain, cast vinyl, and varied woods. My work is found in local art galleries and in the homes of collectors.

I enjoy contributing artwork for local non-profits to make a positive difference. I am a member of the Amador County Artist Association and exhibit in local venues through Amador Art in Public Places.
