Mary Sue Palmquist

I am a watercolor artist and calligraphy enthusiast who resides in Amador County, California.

My major in college was art, primarily watercolor, printmaking, drawing and graphics (pre-computer age!) Thereafter, life took me in other directions and I worked in the performing arts management field for 20 years. My next act was going back to college and studying art therapy, then teaching in an after-school program.

In 2005 life took me to California where I eventually was able to revive my passion of painting in watercolor again. I also rekindled my love for calligraphy and sumi brush painting as well as mixed media. I now enjoy creatively exploring and combining those mediums.

Mostly, my inspiration comes from the natural world — the glow of a sunset, the light hitting the water, a flower in bloom . . . a setting you can place yourself in. Also, the expressions of people and animals give me pleasure to capture.
